Award-winning international variety performance artist and coach, ‘Vixen DeVille’ (aka Cat LaCohie) joins forces with Cirque du Soleil aerialist, and founder of aerial acrobatics training school, ‘Grounded In Flight’, Amanda Ritchie. Together we will guide you through a transformational weekend of creative self-expression using aerial and fire performance techniques.
This unique retreat experience is designed to help build mental and physical strength, increase self-confidence and to give you a much needed ‘time-out’ by stepping into our world of safe and supportive creative exploration.
WHAT EXACTLY IS FIRE AND FLIGHT?
This weekend retreat is designed to introduce new performance disciplines to absolute beginners, while taking the performance skills of those with experience to a whole other level.
New aerialists, who are spreading their wings for the first time, will learn the fundamentals and technique needed to play and explore, and seasoned aerialists will get to stretch their wings and take flight with act development, advanced combos and tricks with a hyper focus on transitions and storytelling!
Those new to fire will be able to experience Fire Eating, Fire Breathing, Butane Bubbles and the basics of the fire flow art of Fire Fans and Fire Staff and Rope Dart.
Those with fire experience will learn more advanced Fire Eating tricks and transfers including hollow torches and vapour tricks, plus more advanced tricks and combinations with Fire Fans and other flow toys.
All experience levels will have the opportunity to take part in photoshoots and/or to perform their chosen discipline either as an informal work-in-progress showcase or as a chance to gain professional footage and performance photos to build their promotional portfolio.
Students will also have the opportunity to perform in either discipline, with option to perform Saturday night either solo and/or with a partner. We will have photographers and videographers capturing the whole event and participants have the option of taking part in an additional ‘studio’ style shoot in order to gain more professional pictures for their own promotional use.
WHERE IS FIRE AND FLIGHT LOCATED?
We’ll be spending the weekend training and performing at The Dusty Llama Ranch in Twentynine Palms. This tranquil, picturesque desert landscape is the perfect setting for focused training and exploration and the perfect backdrop for unique promotional photographs and performance footage. Accommodation is not included, but there are local airbnbs and hotel options in the area available for all budgets. We will also be connecting attendees in our private Facebook group prior to the event, plus a pre-event zoom meeting where you can organize sharing accommodations with other attendees.
While the ranch may look “in the middle of nowhere” we are in fact just seconds drive from the main road so no need to worry about vehicles driving off road, plus there is of course plenty of parking available onsite.

FLEDGLING PHOENIX
PACKAGE INCLUDES:
90min pre-event meet and greet session ONLINE via Zoom Get to know your retreat leaders, connect with fellow attendees and organize accommodation shares and carpooling. We’ll also be giving out info on assigned groups, event scheduling plus housekeeping for the weekend so that we can make the most of the time we have during the event itself.
Fire Safety Awareness Class – (1:30pm Thursday) We will start the event off with Fire Safety training, information on the fuels we will be using and location and use of fueling stations throughout the event. Training will be given on how to be a fire safety assistant for your fellow students and official fire safety assistants will be established.
Aerial Jam Session 1:30pm Thursday For those with aerial experience spend some time “saying hi” to the equipment, brush the rust off your moves and show us what you got. This is a ‘non-teaching’ session in that you will have staff on site to spot you but are not available for teaching at this time. For those new to these disciplines, come watch the jam session and get inspired for the weekend ahead. Watch the sun set over the mountains. Enjoy a drink in a hammock under the star-filled night sky. Take a breath and set some intentions for the next couple days. Light refreshments will be provided and you are welcome to bring your own.
Fire Jam Session – After Sunset Thursday For those with experience in fire, come join us in the fire circle. Get acclimated to the space, brush the rust off your moves and show us what you got. We will have a number of pieces of equipment for you to play with but you are also welcome to bring your own. This is a ‘non-teaching’ session in that you will have staff on site to fire safety and help fuel up but are not available for teaching at this time. For those new to these disciplines, come watch the jam session and get inspired for the weekend ahead. Enjoy the star-filled desert night sky, take a breath and set some intentions for the next couple days. Light refreshments will be provided and you are welcome to bring your own.

RISING PHOENIX
Package Includes everything listed in the Fledgling level, PLUS:
Participation in a professional “Studio Style” photoshoot of your choice in either Aerial or Fire Rising Phoenix level attendees will receive a professional photoshoot session using the performance equipment of their choice. For those taking part in the Aerial shoot you can choose between our 35″ single point tab-less black taped lyra or our red colored silks for your equipment. The photoshoot includes a session with our instructors to select and perfect your poses ahead of time. The aerial shoot takes place during daylight hours on the Friday afternoon/early evening with the desert landscape and skyscape as your background. Those opting for the Fire photoshoot can choose between fire fans, fire staff, fire eating and fire breathing and are welcome to also bring your own equipment. The photoshoot includes a session with our instructors ahead of time to select and perfect your poses. The photoshoot takes place after sunset on the Friday evening. With both shoots you can keep to simple looks wearing workout gear or you can bring costume and make-up for a more elaborate look. Attendees will receive more info and guidance on costume for photoshoots after sign-up.
Participation in ONE specialty Fire & Flight photoshoot Make the most of attending this retreat by taking advantage of our more specialized photoshoot opportunities. Choose from: ◈ Fire Wings (Thursday during sunset) – Explore your Fiery Goddess or Blazing Warrior. Experience posing with fire wings with guidance from our team on the optimal poses for your intended look. ◈ Fire Lolli (Thursday After Sunset) – For those with at least 3 months aerial experience and the ability to invert, our Fire Lolli Photoshoot offer the chance to fuse fire and lyra, with more elaborate poses that the Butane Bubbles shoot and less interaction with fire. All participants will spend time with Amanda pre-photoshoot to select and perfect their poses. ◈ Butane Bubbles Fire & Aerial Fusion (Friday Evening 9pm) Take part in the Fire and Flight tradition, our signature Butane Bubbles photoshoot, fusing fire with Aerial Lyra poses. Guided by Amanda in performing the optimal aerial lyra pose, you will be assisted by Cat and the team in holding fire in your hands, or other parts of your body to create the ultimate phoenix photograph combining both fire and aerial disciplines.
Access to download and use all images from your photoshoots You will be sent a private link to view and download all photos from you shoots. Each image will have been color-corrected with minimal edits and be provided in high res JPG. Photos will be made available 2-4 weeks after the event and you are free to use them as you wish for both personal and professional use.

Led by Cirque du Soleil aerialist, and founder of aerial acrobatics training school, ‘Grounded In Flight’. Amanda Ritchie will lead workshops in Lyra, Hammock, Silks, Lollipop and Spiral. Participants are split into groups according to skill level so those experiencing aerial for the first time can explore freely and safely while those more experienced can be challenged to up their game.
Fire Workshops
Led by award-winning international variety performance artist and coach, ‘Vixen DeVille’ (aka Cat LaCohie), Fire and Flight provides workshops in Fire Eating, Fire Breathing, Butane Bubbles, Fire Fans and Fire Staff/Sword. All equipment is provided and participants split into group depending on previous experience and skill level.
Fire Wings Photoshoot
Led by award-winning international variety performance artist and coach, ‘Vixen DeVille’ (aka Cat LaCohie), you will be guided through various poses wearing Fire and Flight’s Fire Wings. Build your promo photo portfolio or use for your own joy and social media bragging rights, you can keep the shots as simple as you want or bring costume and make-up for a more elaborate look.
Showcase Performance
On the final night of the retreat, we present a private and informal showcase of participant’s performances. You can choose to perform in either fire or aerial disciplines and either as a soloist or as a duet depending on what brings you more joy. This performance opportunity is for you to gain YOUR results, whether that’s performing a new skill for the first time in front of an audience with no pressure to be perfect, or whether you’re a professional performing a more polished piece in order to gain promotional footage and photographs for promotional material.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation policy – All purchases are fully refundable if cancelling 60 days prior to the event. In order to cancel your booking and apply for a refund you must send an email to [email protected] BEFORE 11PM Pacific on August 3rd, 2025. All emails sent after this time will not be eligible for refund but can be transferred to another person or to a future retreat date.
